I. Course Description:
This class will address areas of behavior, character, discipline, and service learning.
II. Organization of Instruction
Whole groups, small groups and Individual work.
III. Course Objectives/Topics
Students will participate in strengthening social skills, developing and using manners, character education, hygiene, anger management, and service learning.
IV. Text
There is no text for this class. However, videos, role playing, and participation in outdoor activities will be required, including landscaping and yard work.
V. Grading System
New Beginnings, Social Skills and Boot Camp equal the New Beginnings grade. Grades are derived from oral tests, written tests and performance activities (PT tests), participation on the low ropes course, and outdoor activities (litter patrol, lawn beautification, and maintenance). The grades will be weighted as follows: New Beginnings 20%, Social Skills 20 %, and Boot Camp 60%.
VI. Required State Tests
NA. However, all students must have a passing grade for Boot Camp, New Beginnings, and Social Skills. Successfully completing this course is a major factor in determining whether a student may return to his/her home school.
VII. Supplies Needed
Students will need a good work ethic and attitude. All other supplies or equipment are provided.
Burger King- An opportunity for students to work off disciplinary infractions.
